Open Thread: Relocation Update

As mentioned previously, the new management of the apartment building I have been living in for the last three decades has decided to close the entire complex for renovations.  Thus all the tenants had to be out by the end of September.  As a low-paid temp worker with no car, my living options were limited.  I managed to find a (smaller, more expensive, less conveniently located) place that will be ready by September 15, but the deposit was prohibitive, and the expenses of suddenly moving high.  So I put up a fundraiser.

Created for me by Indigo Caldwell; please do not reuse without permission.

Since then, I am happy to report that the fundraiser has passed 50% thanks to many generous people, friends, relatives and strangers from the Internet.  I could sure use some more help, though, so please spread the word!  https://www.gofundme.com/229z4ez8

I have made the deposit and am now pricing movers.  Supposedly the management of my current place will reimburse me for the movers, but their trustworthiness is yet to be proven.  And since I came home last week to find a notice that they hadn’t paid the water bill and it is going to be turned off 9/26….yeah.  And those estimates are looking pricey. (I may also have to pay the city to block off parking space for the truck at both ends of the journey.)

And since this is an open thread, tell me your moving stories!
