Open Thread: Tenth Anniversary!

That’s right, it’s been ten years of me telling you what books, movies, TV shows, comics and other pop culture artifacts I’ve been looking at. Time to celebrate!

When I began in 2012, I’d recently been laid off from my first long-term job and was feeling rudderless. To distract myself from the grind of job-seeking, I increased the number of book and movie reviews I was posting on various forums. One joker on the Superdickery forum suggested, “why don’t you just get your own blog!?” So I did. (His response was “I was kidding!”)

A fair number of things have happened since. I went back to school and got a degree in Business Management. (Yes, yes, I know, but that’s what my veteran’s grant would assist with.) I moved, twice. I worked a bunch of temp jobs before finally being hired on at my current employer. My nephew got married and gave me grand-niece and nephew. My father died. I started working remote, saving a lot of commute time.

I had thoughts of monetizing this blog when I first started, but it’s never been popular enough for that. (On the other hand, that’s kept it relatively ad-free, something you seldom see on the internet.) I’m looking forward to bringing you more fun and sometimes enlightening reviews–next up will be my annual Shonen Jump post, and perhaps a holiday-related item or two.
